Buehler Powermet 5000

We are currently preparing the Buehler Powermet 5000 large capacity cutter for customer installation. The machine has been purchased by a major heat treatment company who has been a customer of Spectrographic for many years. Other items supplied to this company are Polishing machines, Microscopes, Microscope cameras and Micro hardness testers.

At Spectrographic we aim to build long term relationships, this is essential for the development of the company and extend our list of satisfied and repeat customers. Full demonstrations are available on machines and valued advice is given to ensure the correct equipment is chosen and long term service support is offered to give customers full confidence.

The introduction of the Powermet5000 will offer our customer increased cutting capacity for sectioning of large components for the control of heat treatment. The customer liked the solid build of the machine and very robust design, this machine was being promoted in the Spectrographic used equipment section, of our website www.metallography.co.uk.

The customer liked the following features:
·          The Buehler Powermet 5000 is a very well made solid cutting machine for automatic cutting operation. The machine can be set for wheel speed and feed speed. Important features are multipass cutting which allow very difficult samples to be sectioned.
·          The large T slot bed (580mm x 470mm) all fixturing of standard and special vices to accommodate most samples even with difficult shapes and large sizes.
·          Cooled cutting is supplied from the 250 litres coolant tank with twin coolant nozzles supplying generous coolant during cutting operation. The recirculation tank uses a double filter chamber to maintain good clean coolant operation for extended times.
·          A feed length of 340mm is hydraulically operated. The feed speed and cutting force can be adjusted to suit the material to be sectioned.

When using an abrasive cutting wheel it is important to select the correct size and grade of wheel to suit the application.  At Spectrographic we offer product support and application knowledge to help find the correct cutting wheel and sectioning parameters for your application.

The abrasive cutting wheel consists of abrasive material of certain  media types (alumina and silicon carbide grades) and particle sizes, bonded together with rubber or synthetic resin. During the cutting cycle sectioning is performed with sharp abrasive at the tip of the cutting wheel which is worn blunt during the cutting operation. The blunt abrasive will break away to reveal more sharp abrasive particles to offer continuous efficient cutting.
