When Sheffield Hallam University were trained on their new installation of a hardness tester was it because they were testing very hard materials that they were wearing hard hats? The Mitutoyo HM200 series hardness tester here,  is used for measuring hardness of PVD coating with hardness of over 3000 Hv.  The integration of computer based measurement software improves the consistency of the indent, very important when the indentation is in the region of 12 micron. Yes, the material is very hard but the hats were due to extensive building and refurbishment work, set for completion in November.  At this point the microhardness tester will be relocated and Spectrographic will recalibrate it and ensure all is working correctly. We would like to thanks our customer for their business. Contact us on: Telephone - 01274 966173 Email - sales@metallography.co.uk Website - www.metallography.co.uk

Metallurgical sectioning of automotive crank shaft

Image
The crank shaft is difficult to section due to the complex shape and hardness of the material. The MetCut systems offer versatile fixture and powerful cool cutting to give high quality sectioned samples. The selection of abrasive cutting wheel is very important to optimize the cut quality.
