Book Review: Surface Preparation and Microscopy of Materials by Brian Bousfield

Image
Spectrographic's Managing Director, Paul Chippendale, enjoys a good read.  His favourite Metallurgy publication is the book by Brain Bousfield, Surface Preparation and Microscopy of Materials. This metallurgical book really is the bible for all metallurgists, and gives a great insight into the field of materials surface preparation, according to Paul. It gives an in-depth insight into the preparation of metals, spray coatings, composites, minerals, PCB's and electronic circuits, thin film measurement, soft materials and ceramics.  The book also enlightens the reader into hardness testing and applied microscopy. Paul has been inspired by this book to write his own guidance notes for sample preparation, available from the website. The Spectrographic Team are here to help identify your preparation needs, and the book is available on Amazon. Email:  sales@spectrographic.co.uk Tel: 01274 966173 Website:  www.spectrographic.co.uk

Moths - Using a Huvitz HSZ -645

A recent meeting with Dr Lewis and gave Spectrographic the opportunity to look at some very interesting subjects on our Stereo microscope.   The Moth geni talia samples did offer some challenges but these were overcome in our customer service laboratory equipped with a wide range of microscopes and computer based imaging systems. Have a look at the work done by Dr Lewis on his website and more information on the article on our news section. This provides some interesting information regarding the Huvitz microscopes , that they are useful for other science applications. Do you require any more information, then please do contact the Spectrographic Team. Email:  sales@spectrographic.co.uk Tel: 01274 966173 Website:  www.spectrographic.co.uk

Rockwell Adjustment of Values

Image
Spectrographic have been refurbishing used hardness testers for the past 5 years.  These were an addition to our used metallurgical equipment range which include cutters, mounting presses, grinders and polishers. Recently we were asked by one our customers how to adjust a Rockwell hardness tester's  values, as we are so keen to help, we supplied them with a video to demonstrate how it should be done. Please find below our video of adjusting the values of the Rockwell hardness tester. Spectrographic hope that the information on how to do this operation with the hardness tester, was interesting to you. If you have any requirements for a used hardness tester, please contact the Spectrographic team. Email:  sales@spectrographic.co.uk Tel: 01274 966173 Website:  www.spectrographic.co.uk

How to use Auto Count in Panasis

Image
As a distributor of the Panasis Software for metallurgical microscopes.  We like to give you the heads up on how some of the features work. This video demonstrates how to use the Auto Count feature within Panasis. The Auto Count allows users to measure porosity in a metallic sample. Did you find the information helpful, or can Spectrographic help you further? If that is the case please contact the technical team. The Omegapress 2 - Metallurgical Mounting Press

Image
Spectrographic has it's own brand series of metallurgical equipment, this includes the popular OmegaPress 2 mounting press. The OmegaPress 2 Metallurgical mounting press  offers a fully automatic sample encapsulation system for thermosetting and thermoplastic hot mounting resins making it the ideal choice for sample preparation. The electro-hydraulic unit requires only single phase and water to complete the mounting cycle. Cycle times are set to 7 mins. The slider closure allows easy ejection of samples when the automatic mounting cycle is complete. The closure can be lifted for maintenance such as changing the cylinder size, this takes less than a couple of minutes. Our engineer, has recorded, his own Oscar winning performance on how to set up and operate the OmegaPress 2. Sit back, get a coffee and enjoy Philip at his best..... What did you think to the performance, please feel free to write a review. Also, for further reading there is the specification ...

Sonodur-2 UCI Portable Hardness Tester Videos

Image
After the successful visit of Dr Manfred Tietze of New Sonic, demonstrating the Sonodur-2 UCI portable hardness tester, last month.   Dr Tietze has sent video's for us to show anyone interest in getting their hands on the latest portable hardness testing technology. These are available on our website , but you can see them here too. The SonoDur is a portable hardness tester that offers fast and accurate measurement readings on site and for control of production heat treatment.  The UCI hardness tester system is recommended when laboratory hardness testers cannot be used. Spectrographic are please to be in partnership with NewSonic to promote the Sonodur-2 UCI Portable Hardness Tester. If you are interested in the Sonodur-2 UCI portable hardness tester then please contact the office: Email: sales@spectrographic.co.uk Telephone: 01274 966173 Website: www.spectrographic.co.uk

Bidding "Fishwell" to Dr Manfred Tietze of New Sonic

Image
Spectrographic has enjoyed the company of Dr Manfred Tietze from Newsonic.  On their final night Paul and Manfred went out for fish and chips at the Chevin at Menston, West Yorkshire, with its amazing back drops and scenery. Using the portable fork "hardness tester" to check the chips.  Chips met the spec and the fish was great too.  The laughter has certainly been flying this week, with this business partnership. "Just for the record, we test metals using portable or classical hardness testers." says Spectrographic's Managing Director, Paul Chippendale. Thanks for your help Manfred from Newsonic . Require any information on the Sonodur 2 UCI portable hardness tester, then please contact Spectrographic. sales @spectrographic.co.uk Telephone: 01274 966173 www.spectrographic.co.uk

How to fit a reticule to an eyepiece

Image
Watch our engineer fit a measuring reticule in a microscope eyepiece. The reticules are used to add measurement facility or comparison capability to a variety of microscopes. Reticules are clear discs marked with a exact pattern or scale. These reticles are available as crossline, micrometer scales, or grids. Stage micrometers are also available for calibrating microscope reticules or objective lens magnification. The reticule is sized for the microscope, but watch the video to see how it should be installed – but don't scratch it!!
